How does a Nemtek security electric fence work?
The electric fence control unit produces a High Voltage Safe electrical Pulse that is transmitted along an array of horizontally tensioned wires, which form the SYSTEM.
What voltage goes through a Nemtek electric fence system?
The pulses are up to 9000v.
Is the system safe?
YES the pulses created by the energiser, components, system design and installation fully comply with product safety standards IEC60335, and Nemteks code of practice which exceeds this standard.
What is the Warranty on a Nemtek security electric fence system?
Here at EFD we offer a Unique 25 Year Guarantee on all Nemtek products. Giving the customer Total Peace of Mind (T & Cs apply).
What happens if a child or elderly person comes into contact with the system?
In accordance with the Code of Practice all systems are designed and installed to minimise the risk of accidental contact, with all ages and infirmity considered. The Impulses give a SHORT, SHARP but SAFE SHOCK.
What are the basic safety requirements of IEC 60335?
The maximum energy that can be produced by the security system energiser, is limited by design to a maximum of five joules into a load of 500 ohms (typical resistance of human body).
The energiser is designed and required to comply with this output, even under abnormal operating conditions such as component failure. The overall system is specified with due consideration given to the duty of care associated with such systems. This includes clearances, numbers of wires, the use of warning signs, etc.
How does Nemtek limited ensure that their code of practice and quality standards are complied with?
Installations are inspected and certified by Nemteks approved UK Distributor.
Is the system legal?
YES, the system is legal because the system design, components and installation comply with the requirements of IEC 60335 and EN6100 installed with appropriate duty of care in accordance with Nemtek standards and code of practice.
What maintenance is required?
We recommend a minimum of two routine maintenance inspections per year to ensure optimum system performance and reliability. We recommend that the operator inspects the fence line weekly and keeps it clear of vegetation, weeds and litter.
Is the system prone to false alarms due to changes in the weather i.e. Heavy rain, fog, snow, high winds, falling leaves, wet paper bags, wild animals etc?
NO, unlike other perimeter systems Nemteks Electric Security Fence Systems technology and signal processing ignores these forms of interference.
Why does the system not generate an alarm if an animal or human touches the pulsed wires?
Anyone who touches the system when it is armed, is repelled by a short, sharp, painful but regulated safe electric shock. Only if someone attacks, tries to climb through or tampers with the system, are alarms generated.
What about false alarms?
False alarms are virtually unheard of because of the systems quality and proven design, unique electronics and system components. Designed, installed and maintained by Accredited Dealers in accordance with the Nemtek Code of Practice and Quality Standards.
What happens if the mains fail?
All our systems have standby power supplies. In the event of mains failure rechargeable batteries power the system for a minimum of 10 hours. If a longer period is required the size of standby power supplied can be increased.
What are the running costs of a typical Nemtek electric fence system?
A typical system consumes less than 50 watts fully armed, HV pulses on.
Is the system compatible with other security systems & equipment?
YES, NEMTEK Security Electric Fence Systems can be installed as a stand- alone system or directly interfaced with any other type of intruder alarm, CCTV, access control or integrated security systems for local or remote control and monitoring.
Can gates be protected?
YES, all forms of security opening, sliding and power gates can be fully protected with the system.
Can the operator gain access through the gate without getting a shock?
YES, the system is designed to allow the key holder access to the gate locks and bolts without coming into contact with the system.
Is it possible for the system to be on & monitor the perimeter security without the high voltage feature?
YES, Nemtek Security Electric Fence System is a fully monitored HV/LV system for the protection of storage yards, car parks and sites such as garden centres and factories, where authorised personnel can be exposed to the system without the risk of the high voltage feature. During the daytime the system is fully monitored using a unique LV system. When the premises are vacated the system can be armed with the additional feature of the high voltage deterant.
Is the system zoned for alarm management & response?
YES, zones can be configured to meet with the exact site requirements i.e. CCTV camera zones, programmable delayed zones for exit routes, gates, etc.
What is the maximum electrical zone length?
It is recommened that the maximum zone length does not exceed 150 metres or 300 ohms (resistive value of HT wire).
Can the system be used in conjunction with cctv, security lighting & other alarm monitoring or annunciation?
YES, the zone alarm outputs can be used to trigger or operate all forms of alarm monitoring, annunciation or signalling systems.
Do insurers accept or specify the fence system?
YES, most major insurance companies accept the installation of Nemtek Security Electric Fence Systems and some are now specifying the same protection of appropriate sites.
As a direct result of Electric Fence Systems stopping crime & loses on numerous installations, owners and operators have been able to obtain insurance on previously uninsurable or uneconomic risks.
Is planning consent required for the system?
Planning consent is only required if you are planning to install a system that exceeds the local security fence height restrictions. If you are replacing an existing fence or system with a Nemtek Security Electric Fence System of the same height, planning consent would not be required.
Can the system be operated remotely?
YES, if required the system can be supplied by operation of key switches, keypads, key fobs, wireless remote controls etc. alternatively the system can be controlled via a PC based system and operated/monitored remotely via a computer network or the internet.
Will birds or wildlife be affected by the system?
NO, farmers use electric fences that comply with the same safety standards as, Zoo’s, nature reserves etc all around the world.
What happens if pets or wild animals come into contact with the system?
The system will not harm them, they will be repelled and learn not to go near it. (same as animals in a farmers field contained by an electric fence).
Can you hear the system when it’s on?
Sometimes you may hear the fence clicking every 1.2S, especially if its raining or damp and there is vegetation or litter touching the fence.
Can you hold onto the electric fence wires when the system is on?
If you touch the electric fence wires when it pulses you will be REPELLED.
Can the electric impulses jump very far?
It is recommended that the electric fence wires are at least 2cm away from any metal or grounded structure. In certain circumstances if the impulsed electric fence wires are near to a metal object (less than 20cm) that is grounded, the impulse may jump across to the grounded material.
